EXPLORE. ENGAGE. EXPERIENCE.

EXPLORE. ENGAGE. EXPERIENCE.

Fols Kids SEN Club runs every Saturday (term time only) from 11.30am - 1.30pm.

Fols Kids Play Experience - Our Core Beliefs

  • Sensory play is an easy way to provide a creative outlet for all young children, especially those with special needs or communication difficulties

  • Exciting sensory art experiences encourage exploration, tactile stimulation, creativity, initiative, choice and above all enjoyment, in a situation which is controlled by the child.

  • Some ideas are very messy but the creative process and artistic experience far outweigh the extra effort.

  • Sensory play is a process of exploration and for very young children is best approached as a process.

  • Sensory play activities will take the children on a sensory adventure developing awareness of temperature, texture, colour and so much more.

Assessment sessions

During your child’s assessment session we will seek to learn more about your child e.g how they communicate, which activities best stimulates them etc. This will enable us to tailor their sessions moving forward to ensure they get the most out of each session if you decide to join the club.

Joining Fols Kids SEN Club

Once you decide to join the club and select a package that best suits you. We will expect your child to be dropped off at 11.30am. We welcome the children in to the setting with calming music. We have our standard fixtures such as sensory area, tent, trampoline, floor piano, book table, puzzle table and animal table. This familiarity is particularly helpful to children that suffer from anxiety resulting from change. Each week we introduce new activities such as messy play, clay modelling etc.

Each team member will engage with the different children at various stages in their experience. Implementing strategies for social development and other areas that are targeted to each child’s needs.

We have snack time as a group. Encouraging each child to sit around our table. We have more upbeat music playing which further uplifts the environment. Team members bring each child their food individually. Encouraging various forms of communication during this period. For instance if a child is verbal we encourage “please” and “thank you” in the exchange of snacks and drinks. If a child is non-verbal then we use PECS or pointing while team members say what the item is. Studies and experience shows that this training may not appear to be making much of a difference at present but it will make a difference in a child’s development that will be evident at some point in their journey.

Once snack time is complete. We have toilet breaks. Outdoor play if the weather permits. During our time outside we have group activities or practise working well as a team e.g turn taking on play equipment.

Then we bring the children back inside for home time.

We see each child as a unique individual, full of potential and are honoured to be given the opportunity to be a small part of their journey, equipping and nurturing them to be the best versions of themselves. We take this responsibility very seriously and it reflects in the work we do with them week by week.
